The Government of Japan Provides Assistance worth US$ 100,000 to IFRC for Flood Affected People in Pakistan

The Government of Japan has decided to provide US$100,000 (approximately Rs. 12 million) to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support those affected by the recent floods, which hit Punjab, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. 

Although two months have passed since the floods, the immediate needs of the flood-affected people are not necessarily met sufficiently.  Japan’s grant, which is provided in response to the IFRC’s call for support, is expected to be used for procurement and distribution of 1,500 Food Packs (61kg each) by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) for the most deserving 1,500 families (about 10,500 individuals). 

Stressing that serious damage in the flood-affected area is of great concern, H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Inomata, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, expressed his hope that this humanitarian assistance would help in improving the living conditions of the affected people.  He also recalled with gratitude Pakistan’s kind support to Japan at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami in 2011, and reiterated Japan’s commitment to stand together with Pakistani people in times of difficulties.  Ambassador Inomata hoped that the current emergency relief would further strengthen the existing friendly relations between Japan and Pakistan.
